PURPOSE: To learn how using the Golden Rule makes people feel. None.
1. Explain what the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) is in easy language. "When we live by the Golden Rule it means that we treat other people how we would like them to treat us."
2. Talk about what a friend or classmate has done and decide if the Golden Rule was used.
Examples:
MATERIALS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
- A friend asks you to play a game
- Your friend says he won’t be your friend any more if you don’t do what he wants to do and you don’t want to do it?
- Someone gives you a compliment?
- Your friend helps you with chores?
3. Ask how each of these things make you feel?
4. If the Golden Rule was not used, what should the person have done to use the Golden Rule?
5. Tell your child how proud you are when he/she follows the Golden Rule.
Note: Parents are extremely important role models. Our children use their parents as a pattern. By watching what we do in everyday life they develop their values and decision making skills.
